With so much beauty in front of behind the camera AND behind it, Little Flair has little to be afraid of... I spotted this young photographers work a while back and found her self-portraits to be among the most captivating I have seen here in DA, and her face to be one of the most beguiling - her eyes are utterly mesmerising.
This is my favourite of her self-portraits. I think it is outstanding! I especially like the pose - angular and coquetteish and the composition is perfect, nice lines and seductive textures. The lighting, with the white backdrop and just the right amount of fill in to the foreground is even - no ugly shadows - it's beautiful.
I think this self-portrait would be equally at home exhibited in the 'fashion portraits' gallery as it is in the 'self-portraiture' - the styling is simple and the muted tones sit nicely against the white and still compliment the skin tones. This image is like a celebration of youth and vitality and struck an emotional chord with me. Her expression is so beautiful and so captivating that it beseiges the heart and could make the coldest heart melt. So much beauty!
For vision, I have awarded 4.5 - like I said earlier, there are many magazines and catalogues and billboards showing beautiful willowy girls, striking awkward poses, with long hair and lips that look like they were only worthy of kissing Gods. But has gone beyond the realms of capturing merely physical beauty - she has captured hearts with this. There's so much emotion and fragility here.
For originality, again, I have given 4.5 simply for all the reasons stated above. I could stare at this photograph for hours, never tiring and feel the emotion and marvel at the beauty.
For technique I have given Little Flair 5 out of 5. I cannot fault it. The composition, crop and colours are all, in my humble opinion, perfect and even. So simple a shot, but more often or not it is the simple shots that are the most difficult to get right. And she has. 110%.
The way this image has haunted me for 2-3 days now, as I fumbled around trying to find the right words to say - writing and rewriting this critique shows the level of impact this has had on me. Full marks for impact. I cannot and will not award anything less. Undoubtedly Little Flair is as equally talented a model as she is a photographer. With eyes that see so much, and reveal so much of her soul in each self-portrait.
I am still not 100% happy with the words I have written here but I hope I have managed to convey HOW this image made me feel when I first laid eyes on it - how it was like an air cannon - knocked me down. There's so much this girl has to offer - I cannot wait to see more.
Thank you, Little Flair - for being YOU and for sharing so much of yourself with us. It has been a joy to behold!
